I was reading in the Book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill. It’s a classic book and there are many affirmations throughout the book – I’m a real believer in affirmations. There is one main affirmation in the book. It goes like this:
First. I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my Definite Purpose in life, therefore, I DEMAND of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and I here and now promise to render such action.
Second. I realize the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical action, and gradually transform themselves into physical reality, therefore, I will concentrate my thoughts for thirty minutes daily, upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that person.
Third. I know through the principle of auto-suggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it, therefore, I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of SELFCONFIDENCE.
Fourth. I have clearly written down a description of my DEFINITE CHIEF AIM in life, and I will never stop trying, until I shall have developed sufficient self-confidence for its attainment.
Fifth. I fully realize that no wealth or position can long endure, unless built upon truth and justice, therefore, I will engage in no transaction which does not benefit all whom it affects. I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use, and the cooperation of other people. I will induce others to serve me, because of my willingness to serve others. I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism, by developing love for all humanity, because I know that a negative attitude toward others can never bring me success. I will cause others to believe in me, because I will believe in them, and in myself.
I will sign my name to this formula, commit it to memory, and repeat it aloud once a day, with full FAITH that it will gradually influence my THOUGHTS and ACTIONS so that I will become a self- reliant, and successful person.
One thing that stood out for me while I was reading the book was this: Know what you want and have the determination to stand by that desire until you’ve realized it!
How many of us know what we want from life? It wasn’t until just a couple of months ago that I figured this out for myself. I think that is amazing. I am 45 years old. Maybe it was because I went through a life changing event, like losing my memory, that made me take a serious look at my life, figure out where my life was heading, and then make some decisions about where I wanted to go and how I was going to get there.
How many of us have the determination to stand by that desire (what we want from life) until we’ve realized it? I am dead set on standing by my desire to reach my goals. I no longer want to stand by, watching my life go by, wondering if things are going to “work out”. I’m making things happen. I’m taking control of my destiny. Sure, there are going to be things that will get in the way, but I will take those challenges and obstacles as they come. I’ve made it this far. I can continue to kick and fight if I have to but with a more positive attitude, I will pleasantly pass through life, working my way up to making my dreams come true!
In my website, BrainBeHappy.com, in The Happy Shop, I have referenced many books on Positive Affirmations. If you haven’t used affirmations, you will be amazed at how affirmations can change your life. I use them all the time and they have changed my life!
Sending Many Hugs Your Way!
